I recently had a KickStart Eliminator installed in my A1000. Since this event
I have noticed some problems with my system. If I use enough memory, I get
"snow" effects on the screen.
My system is: A1000, Supra 4x4, Starboard II w/2megs, KickStart Eliminator w/
1.3 ROMS.
To demonstrate the effect I invoke multiple copies of CygnusED (or any other
program really, this was handy). When Fast RAM gets to about 400K available
and Chip is down to about 150K I see the problem. The next time CED is brought
up there are unwanted pixels set here and there. Even more interesting, If I
enter text or move the mouse the pixel patterns change. (It's kind of like
having a screen's bitmap pointed at lowmem - the bit patterns change in response
to system state). I hope this makes sense.
I removed the Supra 4x4 and I can still see the problem. It doesn't happen
when I remove the 2 meg StarBoardII.
A curious note on the KickStart Eliminator - there is a jumper on the daughter-
board which enables the KickStart ROMS. If I install the jumper the system
reads KS from the ROMS as expected. If I pull the jumper the system does not
boot - it hangs on a dark grey screen.
I'm curious if any one has seen this effect before. I plan to contact CMI and
Microbotics soon. Thanks! HELP!
