Recently I have begun having problems with my 500 on a cold-boot. When I turn it on, it seems to have trouble loading the kickstart from ROM. It will either take an extra amount of time to get to the insert workbench screen with assorted unusual drive noises, or it gurus with 00000003.00C01570.
