I was happy to find some new Fish Disks (229-236, I believe) on etana.tut.fi, until I downloaded several from #229 and found that the binary file is missing in each of the ZOO files. The exception is Emporos. Is this an error or an intentional decision not to include the executable files? The earlier Fish Disks there contain binaries, so I am confused. If this is intentional, would you please reconsider your decision? Some of us do not own C compilers. Side note to folks in the U.S.: It is amazing that we have to go to Finland to get the latest Fish Disks! Aside from uihub, which is simply too unreliable to use, no one seems to have the recent disks up. I'm sure I wouldn't be the only very grateful soul if the people at trantor.umd.edu or uxe.cso.uiuc.edu or someplace else could get their hands on the CUCUG disks at uihub.cs.uiuc.edu and the Fish 229-250 disks. It is more than ironic that with the power of this network one is still tempted to turn to U.S. Mail. Ned Schultz nschultz@polyslo.calpoly.edu

Is this true? If so, or if the two groups can get together, it doesn't seem like it would be too much more work to put the old fish disks (which are available elsewhere) on uihub, and put the newer ones on uxe. This would put the disks in the most demand on the more reliable machine. I once tried to suggest this, but I think the mail bounced. Is there someone from uiuc who can comment on this? UIHUB is the machine used as a "staging" area for material before writing it onto my Archive tape and sending it over to the folks at CSO, who from time to time will put it up on UXE. Since UXE is very behind, and since nobody else is (apparently) going to the trouble of uploading disks, people got to using UIHUB, an orphan machine (for good reason), as the exclusive source for the latest Fish and CUCUG disks. I am re-uploading the missing files to UIHUB, additionally placing the missing executables in a directory called 'executables' for those who are seeking them. > If this is intentional, would you please reconsider your decision? It's particularly embarrasing because Paul Petersen and I are the ones responsible for developing PDC release 3 - for those who don't know, PDC is THE complete, freely distributable C compiler package for the Amiga. There is absolutely NO COINCIDENCE, though I admit it looks suspicious. :-) :-) :-) < Lionel ---------- Lionel Hummel 409 Kenwood, Champaign, IL 61821 University of Illinois, Urbana-Champaign [H] (217)356-6379 [W] (217)333-7408 hummel@cs.uiuc.edu {pur-ee,uunet}!uiucdcs!hummel BIX: lhummel

Rest assured that disk 229 does in fact contain all the relevant binaries. Obviously someone has decided that the binaries are unnecessary in the archive you accessed. Below is a brik crc listing for disk 229 so you can determine what is missing from your copy: # Whole file CRCs generated by Brik v2.0.
