[comp.sys.amiga] Repost on XXX -> IFF conversion.

gilchrid@dvinci.usask.ca (Darren Gilchrist) (10/12/89)

I would like to thank everyone for their input. I am providing a like below
on the information I have received.

1. FBM suite (Public Domain/Shareware)

The FBM suite contains a series of programs that converts graphics images
from one file format to another. The conversion may be done for a variety
of file formats such as AMIGA IFF, PCX, etc. The programs were written for
BSD Unix, not for the AMIGA. But, one person has mentioned that he has
these programs running on his AMIGA. He also mentioned that these programs
consumed memory like if memory was cheap. I have two questions about FBM
suite. First, is it the same as PBM that was posted in alt.sources?
Second, could send me the latest version of FBM suite? This do not have
   FTP capabilities.

2. Multiview (Shareware)

This program can convert from Macintosh's MacPaint format to IFF format.
Also it allows the user to convert from a couple of Atari ST format to
IFF format. It does occasionally mess the conversion.

3. MacView (Shareware)

The program converts MacPaint format to IFF format and vice versa. But,
it has, on occasion, mess up the conversion. The program also allows the
   user view a MacPaint file.

 4. ImageLink (Commercial package from Active Circuits, Inc)

    ImageLink allows conversion between

       IFF
       Pict
       Pict2
       Targa
       Caligari
       Turbo Silver
       Byte by Byte Sculpt RGB
       Digiview RGB
       Optick
       Sculpt-Animate 4-D

    Coming soon

       GIF
       Sun Rasterfile
       TIFF
       PC PaintBrush
       plus more

All the above are modules for the program. The program support direct
interaction with graphics hardware such as AMIGA frame buffers, Targa
board using the AT or XT bridgeboard on the AMIGA, etc. For information,
you may contact Active Circuits at (201) 233-5999.

5. Hijaack (Commercial package by InSet)

This program converts between several graphics formats such as AMIGA IFF,
PC Paintbrush, MacPaint, etc. The program is IBM PC oriented package. You
cannot run it on your AMIGA unless, of course, you have a SideCar or
BridgeBoard. I was told by InSet that they are planning to port
Hijaack to the AMIGA. You may contact them at 1-800-828-8088 or
   203-775-5866.

6. Deluxe Paint for the PC (Commercial package by Electronic Arts)

A utility comes with Deluxe Paint for the PC. The utility, called
CONVERTS.EXE, converts between the different graphics formats including
some format from the Macintosh. This is I know about this.

Again, thanks to all who send me information. I hope the above information
 is useful. Til later. Adios
