[comp.sys.amiga] that volleyball game

dennya@pnet02.gryphon.com (Denny Atkin) (10/12/89)

I've noticed that during the recent spate of sprite discussions, people
have mentioned downloading a volleyball game... That game, "Arcade
VolleyBall," is *NOT* public domain, and posting it on a BBS is just like
posting Word Perfect or SimCity.

Arcade Volleyball was on the first Compute!'s Amiga Resource disk. The
programs on this disk are copyrighted (and display copyright notices when
run). Compute! pays top dollar for it's programs and, except for one
"best of the boards" program on each disk, includes ALL original software on
their disks. Among the programs I've seen on BBS's that are copyrighted are
V, DD, X-Ray, Mosaic, and Rejection. If you see these, or any other Amiga
Resource programs, please inform the sysop that they aren't public domain.

If you're interested in writing a program for Amiga Resource, check out hte
next issue of the magazine. They've got a $10,000 programming contest going.
Best program gets $3500.... But they pay up to $2000 for the regular stuff
they buy...

And D.Atkin on GEnie. He's everywhere! Chicken Man is everywhere!)

[Complains about uploading a copyrighted volleyball game to a bbs]

Most freely redistributable software is copyrighted. A copyright does not
necessarily imply that an author has forbid redistribution.

I suspect that the game in question be examined for a freely redistributable
clause. If it's there, then it's copyable. If not, it's not.
