Entertainment Tonight will have a segment on 'The Making of the New Commodore-Amiga Commercials' tonight. It is on channel 3 (NBC) at 7:00 EST here in the Philadelphia area. I believe the thrust of the segment will be that it is the first time George Lucas and ILM (Indistrial Light & Magic) have done a commercial. Watch for it! daveb

You're sure that they didn't switch it to RSN. Ya know, I thought things might change with Commodore, but if they can't even manage to get a plug from ET in between stories about aging actors -- what can they do?? *sigh* I have to keep repeating 'mustard seed' to myself. I set my VCR to record it on Wednesday but my TV Guide was a week old and so I recorded USA Today instead. Fortunately I hear that it was not on ET last night, and particularly fortunate it was on USA Today. I saw it, but not on Entertainment Tonight. It was on "USA Today," a "news" show that's pretty insipid even by today's insipid TV news standards*. The Amiga segment ran all of 30 seconds, and the announcer talked about the commercials for "Commodore's new line of personal computers." New? Does that mean I've just dreamed about having an A500 for the last year & a half? I guess I shouldn't complain; *that*, at least, is no worse than what the "mainstream" press does to the Amiga. (Come to think about it, calling the Amigas "new" can't hurt. The hardware's still more advanced than most computers.) *What do you expect from USA Today, though? They should call themselves "News Lite: Less than 1/3 the information content of a regular news(paper|show)." I'm happy for the coverage, though. They *do* occasionally hit on something worth covering.... -- Larry Kollar ...!gatech!dcatla!mclek Pray for me: I drive on Georgia 400.

Last night in the wee hours of the morning the "Usa Today" television show carried a two minute or so long segment on one of the new Amiga commercials. The commercials are too good to spoil for those of you who don't yet know the story-line and participants, so I'll limit the details. Before they broke for their commercial, the USA Today announcers said that a look at Tip O'Neill's latest endorsement was upcoming. When they returned, they showed several clips from the new Commodore Amiga commercial, which included glimpses of a couple of the celebs that are featured. Two prominent shots of Our Favorite Computer in action were shown, including the end of the ad which features an Amiga playing an animation while the words "Commodore Amiga" appear beside it, and a voice says the new slogan. They mentioned that the ad campaign cost $15 Million and that the ads were produced by George Lucas' production company. As an amusing note, they said that the ads were to promote "Commodores new(!) Amiga computer". Meanwhile, in print, yesterday's (October 11) USA Today newspaper carried about a five inch column (plus photo) on the Amiga ad campaign (page 7B). -- Peter Cherna, Software Engineer, Commodore-Amiga, Inc. {uunet|rutgers}!cbmvax!peter peter@cbmvax.cbm.commodore.com My opinions do not necessarily represent the opinions of my employer. I saw a commercial for Nutella (chocolate hazelnut spread) in which a small girl is shown seated in front of an Amiga 1000. I have seen a brochure for Agfa film wherein the is a picture of an office and on the desk is an Amiga 2000 showing a business graphic. These things pop up in the most unusual places!

Logic also seems to indicate that they would feature their production on the first night they air, beside the fact that they will be aired during a big event like Monday Night Football. These past reports seem to be coming from thin air, no basis whatsoever. Keep your eyes peeled all next week, and especially monday. Joel

Just a word of friendly advice.... When posting info about upcoming events, please don't use terms like "tonight" without including the actual date. "Tonight" on Usenet is about 14 different days, depending on your distance from the poster. Also think about how much of Usenet is going to be able to use that info. This show was six-day-old history before I received this notice. Maybe I can catch a rerun though.... Cheers, Charles Poirier
