[ Reposting: because decvax seems to have dropped the original ] I am doing a survey of Unix performance, as well as evaluating a mixed benchmark. I have posted a benchmark to net.sources from the IBM Systems Journal. It mixes computing and I/O and therefore should be a good general test. This benchmark is in C and should be reasonably portable to most Unix systems. Please run this benchmark on your machine and mail me the results. Included are the results for Vax (750 and 780) running 4.1bsd, as well as an ancient Pdp 11/70 running PWB, so don't bother if you have one of those machines. I am particularly interested in results for Unix workstations. I will post a table summary to the net. Stephen Hemminger Comments on good/bad points of this particular benchmark are also appreciated. Though please don't comment on the implementation style, I know it is IBMish.
