[comp.sys.amiga] Galileo

I have been trying to get a copy of Galileo II for about 3 months now.
Local dealerships say that it is no longer being carried by the company
that formerly distriubuted it. There are rumours of a new version
being worked on, but not yet released. Can anybody comment on the
situation? Can I get a copy of Galileo II? If there is a new version
being worked on, when will it be ready?

Version 3 of Galileo is called "Distant Suns" and it was available at
AmiExpo (though the manual wasn't ready due to earthquake). The list
is $69.95, but they were passing out rainchecks for $25 off...mine says
to send the raincheck and a check for $44.95 (postage and tax included!)
for the program.

I don't know how liberal they are going to be about that raincheck. You
might want to call them and see if theyu';llll give you the discount anyway.

I am having no luck installing Galileo on my hard disk.
I have asked about upgrade policies for Galileo but to
no avail. It is my impression that Smithwick has had
problems with his former distributor and Galileo is now
dead. He apparently wants to market a new program called
Distant Suns and leave Galileo owners under a starless
sky. Can anyone confirm that Galileo does not run on HD
because it has built in paths? Has anyone been able to
upgrade their disks?

I am hesitant to invest in Distant Suns given the problems
with Galileo.

I have Galileo 2.0 running on my hard disk. Here's what I did:

1) Copy the whole floppy to a directory (I called it "Infinity Software"
because that's what the floppy's volume name was) on the hard disk.

2) Delete directories like "c" and "s". They don't seem to be needed.

3) Move everything in "fonts" to the real "fonts" directory.

4) "Cd" to the directory you made and run Galileo. It worked for me.
Since it's keyword protected, the original disk isn't needed.

I did this with "Diskmaster". Saves a lot of typing.

I don't actually know if the directory has to be named "Infinity
Software" to work. I did it because I figured it would increase my
chances. Same comment about being in the directory when running
Galileo. Now that I have it working, I'll check these things out.

As I sit here, I'm looking at a brochure for "Distant Suns". It does
mention an upgrade offer for Galileo owners, so I doubt Mike plans to
"leave us under starless skies". The brochure doesn't describe the
upgrade, so I'm curious if anyone knows any more about it.
