[comp.sys.amiga] LUCAS for Amy 2000?

sutherla@qtp.ufl.edu (scott sutherland) (10/26/89)

All this talk about the LUCAS board recently has renewed my interest in
this project. Although I am not an electonics expert, the UF chemistry
department has an electronics shop, so I am now seriously considering
this project for my A2000.

***** PLEASE NOTE THAT I DO REALIZE THAT THE LUCAS PROJECT ******

***** ECTIONS, SEVERAL MONTHS AGO IN EXCRUTIATING DETAIL. ******
***** AT THAT TIME I DID NOT THINK I WOULD BE ABLE TO DO ******
***** THIS PROJECT, SO I READ THE ARTICLES AND MOVED ON. ******

BY THE WAY, HAS ANYONE, DAVE HAYNIE INCLUDED, DONE COMPARISONS
OF THE RONIN, CSA, COMMODORE, AND LUCAS '020 BOARDS FOR PERFORMANCE?
I HAVE SEEN AN ARTICLE COMPARING ALL BUT THE LUCAS. IT EVEN LOOKED AT
THE MIDGET RACER! HOW DOES THE LUCAS COMPARE TO THESE?

My questions are:

Q1) Is there a LUCAS configuration for the Amy 2000?
All the talk on the net recently has been focused on
	    the A1000.

Q2) Where can I get the details of how to construct the board?
I need detailed schematics that even an electronic dimwit
like me might understand. I also need a list of parts,
where I might get them (probably Radio Shack?), and any
	    helpful hints.

Q3) I need an inexpensive source for the 68020/68881. I have
heard that a student might get these from Motorola at
a discount for research. Any information on this??

Q4) I would also like the same information on construction of
the memory board (can't recall the name) for LUCAS which
has been discussed ad infinitum lately. Cost and availability
of 32-bit RAM chips (how fast do they have to be?)?

Q5) Can LUCAS be altered to use the 68030/68882? If not, what
are the optimum/fastest clock rates for the 68020/68881?
Can an '020 LUCAS use a 68851 (correct number??) MMU?

Any suggestions or other help from those of you who have built a LUCAS
would be appreciated.

Thanks,

Scott Sutherland
