Someone remembered that Amiga still has a Los Gatos facility and asked how the folks there are doing, mentioning my name also. I just heard from Bob (Kodiak) Burns and he said that the Los Gatos crew itself is doing fine. Dale does not live in L.G., but rather in the suburb Milpitas. The rest of the crew seems to be ok too. I am not working for Amiga... I just enjoy working with the machine and do the books, articles and other support because I like it and it buys a few toys here and there. Re our own situation... my wife and I had decided 3 hours before the quake that we would meet for dinner at 5:30, at a restaurant instead of at 7 PM at home (the usual). I left work at 4:50. The quake hit at 5:04. She was already in the parking lot at the restaurant waiting for me, 10 miles downhill from our home. I arrived at our meeting place only 15 minutes later than scheduled, easing the impact, so to speak in that neither of us had to wonder where the other was and how they were doing. Judging from the damage to the house and contents, she would certainly have been badly injured no matter where in the house she had been, so we were very lucky. The house sustained considerable structural damage, and the contents look roughly like the house had been used as a giant milk shaker. We do have earthquake insurance coverage, though, and the company, ALLSTATE, is treating us nicely thusfar, including putting us up in temporary lodging while the put-it-together work is in process. Many thanks to those who have written and called expressing their concern. We are in reasonable spirits, primarily tired from the cleanup effort. We had done a lot of cleanup kinda work in prep for a vacation too-long-delayed, and just hadda start over, delaying it yet again. Thats the primary problem right now. But we'll manage. Thanks again.
