Hello! I have been reading this group for a few months, and it firmly convinced me to purchase an Amiga. The help from CATS, DOGS, GOATS and HOGS is really appreciated. I'm the proud father of a bouncing 2000 (KS 1.3)! I do have some questions: 1) I plan on purchasing an A2090a SCSI and installing a Rodime R05180 drive. This is a beastie with: 7 heads, 1218 cylinders (1223 total), internal bad sector logging, 10 Mhz (maybe 12MHz), 18msec (maybe 12msec), 5 1/4" disk, 180MB disk. Does anyone have any experience with Rodime 5 1/4" drives? Do you see any problems with this setup? 2) In an unrelated note, has anyone ported Gnu Emacs yet? Is there an ftp site that I can grab it from? 3) I got Digi-view for some fun. I didn't want to spend $22.00 on their gender bender, so I just hooked up a normal cable gender bender (to convert from A500 to A2000). Does anyone know it you can use this with output from a VCR (RCA output) or do you really need the camera (I tried, but all I get is "video signal not present"). Thanks in advance. Oh, email may (depending on your server) have to be addressed to: carpent@altura.honeywell.com Disclaimer? I didn't say anything! I wasn't even there! No! Don't take me awwaayyy! Mom!

Fred fish disk #147 has MicroGNUEmacs(MG 2b), but it probably doesn't have all the features you may be used to on the full blown Gnu Emacs. >3) > I got Digi-view for some fun. This is the pinout of the parallel port on the 1000: pin name 1 /STROBE 2-9 D0-D7 10 /ACK 11 BUSY 12 POUT 13 SEL 14 +5V PULLUP 15 NC 16 /RESET 17-25 GND This is the pinout of the parallel port on the 2000: pin name 1 /DRDY 2-9 D0-D7 10 /ACK 11 BUSY 12 POUT 13 SEL 14-22 GND 23 +5V 24 25 /RESET So, if you have something that is designed to connect to the 1000, but you have a 2000 or a 500, wire a gender-bender with pins 1-13, 14, 16, 17-22 of the 2000's connector across to pins 1-13, 23, 25, and 17-22, respectively, of the device's connector. Anyone who tries to do this wiring will have to take responsibility for any problems--I cannot assume any liability for mistakes here, although I believe it to be accurate. I have a couple of HD questions: First, I have a 380 Mb SCSI hard disk that I have formatted to autoboot with a Trumpcard SCSI controller. I disconnected the drive, and hooked it up to a Commodore A2090 controller, but it won't work. AmigaDOS says that the HD is "NOT A DOS DISK". Why? I assume that the controller specific information on cylinders 0-1 is different for the Trumpcard and the A2090. Is there any way to have the A2090 re-write the information it needs to those cylinders without reformatting the entire disk? I tried the HDPrep routine, but it said it would erase all of the files. I assume that the mountlist entry will not change (is this faultly logic?). Has anyone ever moved a HD from one controller to another? What else can I try? Second, does anyone have any experience with the Adaptec ESDI->SCSI converter? I need to get an 380 Mb ESDI drive to work with the Amiga. The problem is that most SCSI controllers on the Amiga require 512 byte blocks. The drive has 256 byte HARD sectors. Is there any way to get the Adaptec to convert the 256 byte physical sectors to 512 byte logical blocks? Has anyone ever even used the Adaptec ESDI->SCSI converter? Thanks for any help or experiences. - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - Stephen Holmstead ...!hplabs!hpdmlge!stephen // Hewlett Packard Disk Memory Division \X/ Amiga Forever!
