I've got an interesting little piece of info here for everyone in NetLand. A friend of mine had his Date set to Oct 31st (Halloween) this morning for some perverted reason, and proceeded to boot up his WorkBench disk. He was greeted with a big HAPPY HALLOWEEN complete with Pumpkin graphic under the text. It then proceeded to erase most of his disk before he could hit reset. The bootblock was wiped out as well as most of the files, so I have no way of knowing whether it was a BootBlock or file virus. What my question is this: Is this an older virus that's been around for a while, and I just didn't realize it was Halloween-related, or is it something new? I've looked thru a couple of Virus killers I have, and have seen no mention of anything related. If this turns out to be an older virus still lingering around, then take this as a time to check for it before Tuesday gets here. If it's a new one, then I'll try my best to see if he has it on another disk, and 'contain' a copy of it to study. PS. Since this message will barely make it to most sites before or on Halloween, you might want to take some extra precautions against this thing. -------- Wendell Dingus ...!uunet!medsys!wendell (615)/246-6015
