I borrowed a printer (and would probably buy one), which seems to work as an Epson printer correctly, except that it has not yet managed to print the scandinavian letters. My friend told me that he had used it as IBM proprinter at the PC, but that choice did not exist in the prefer- ences on my WB 1.2 disk (does it have another name?). Now to the problem: I myself want to print both text (including the scand- inavian letters, which the A500 computer supports iff booted with the WB disk) and graphics (notes from DMCS) and my kids want surely to print pict- ures from dpaint. But if you boot the computer from the WB disk, there is very little memory left to do anything useful, and if you boot it directly from the copy of DMCS only generic and custom printers are supported, and no scandinavian signs (, I have not checked but suspect that is the case with also programs). Neither the custom or generic choice worked with the printer tried. Any experience ? What would be needed ? Should I make a startup disk with only the essential (what would that be), or is there any tool that could be copied to each program disk, which needs the printer, and how do I in that case ensure that it runs automatically if possible ? Because there is already now difficulties with the available 512 k memory, and it takes long enough time to start the system I do not of course want to make anything time and memory consuming just to get a printer to work or to load the scandinavian letters, neither to buy additional expensive software ? If it is impossible to get the Amiga to work properly without additional memory, how much would then be needed, is another 512 K enough or would several megabytes be required ? I have also heard that WB 1.3 also needs a newer version of the kickstart ROM, is that true ? Thank you in advance Jan
