I own a 1981 Pontiac T1000 (an upscale Chevette (no laughing, please)). Yesterday I got a letter from Pontiac in Detroit, saying, in part: "General Motors has determined that a defect which relates to motor vehicle safety exists in some 1981-1982 Pontiac T1000 models equipped with 1.6 liter engines. The carburetor fuel inlet housing plug may come out. If this occurs, fuel would leak from the carburetor and under certain conditions an underhood fire could result. Such a fire could, in time, spread to the passenger compartment and cause burn injuries to occupants remaining in the vehicle." Does anybody know anything about this? I am going to get it fixed right away, but in the meantime, how likely am I to turn into a crispy-critter at 60 mph on the highway? Also, they say the dealer will fix the problem for free (they'd better!), but can I also collect the cost of a rental car, etc.? Any information would be much appreciated, Andrew Shaw BTLHO x4715 houxq!bis (possible) houxm!hocpc!ams (possible)
