The November 1989 BADGE (Bay Area Amiga Developers' GroupE) meeting will be
held Monday, November 13, 1989, in room F-1 of the FORUM Building on the
Foothill College campus in Los Altos Hills, California, at 7:30pm PST. The
room is available to BADGE from 6:00pm-10:00pm (for those arriving early; and
note that no-one will require us to leave at 10:00pm.)

Many thanks to John Berry (instructor at Foothill College, and author of
INSIDE THE AMIGA WITH C) for arranging a new home for BADGE, and to Gary
Starkweather for his persistence!

This November meeting will be a "business" meeting with many topics to be
discussed; there is no featured speaker scheduled at this time.

Because of the new location, I'm providing this one-time-only more-than-the-
usual instructions how to get there, where and HOW to park, description of the
room, and suggestions for your comfort. SAVE THIS INFORMATION for future use
since it will NOT be re-posted; only the section marked "USUAL:" will be part
of the normal monthly postings.

Digitized maps are NOT available due to the size (100+ Kbytes; yeah, I even
tried the "LINE ART" feature of DigiView 3.0), so if you have any difficulty
with the written instructions (following), please let me know so they can be
clarified for subsequent meetings' postings.

GENERAL: (this is ONE-TIME-ONLY info, so save it for future use)

Los Altos is just south of Palo Alto and just north of Cupertino. Foothill
College is readily visible from Interstate 280 as one is heading south from
Palo Alto.  The campus is reminiscient of Shangri-La in the Tibetan Foothills;
i.e. the architecture is Tibetan and the campus is considerably elevated from
the parking lots; it's a 500 foot climb (and anywhere from 1/4 to 1/2 mile
linear distance) from most parking lots to the main campus level, so be sure to
park as described below for easier access. Foothill has an active astronomy
program and an observatory (at the main campus level), so this should suggest
that you dress warmly.

PERMITS ARE REQUIRED for parking, and parking regulations are STRICTLY enforced
until 10:00pm (except during holidays). Automated ``DAILY'' parking permit
dispensers are available in all parking lots, and these little monsters must be
fed two quarters. From the campus map folder:

All drivers without valid parking permits may purchase one for 50 cents
at any of the red permit dispensers placed throughout the college
parking areas. Quarters to operate these dispensers may be obtained
from the One and Five Dollar Change Machine located at Parking Control
at the main entrance to the college.

These parking permits are valid on the date of purchase ONLY. They are
valid only in lots designated by a letter. These are located thoughout
the college perimeter. District Parking Regulations are available for
your review at the Registrar's Office and at Campus Police Heaquarters.

Daily permits obtained from the dispensers MUST be displayed on the
dash with the large serial number facing up. Permits must be displayed
	as instructed to be valid.

SPECIAL NOTE: Handicapped and disabled parking is available in specially marked
lots. Parking in a disabled space (how's that again? :-) without appropriate
vehicle identification will result in a $53.00 California Vehicle Code citation
.

Up to the minute parking lot status is available at 1610 on your AM radio dial
as you approach within several miles of the campus. Since BADGE is meeting
later than most campus activity, there "should" be no trouble securing parking.

Regular bus route service is available to/from campus; schedules are available
from Student Activities in Building C-31 or from Santa Clara County Transit at
415/965-3100. If you get lost or need assistance, call the Foothill Campus
Police at 415/960-4314. Any questions about traffic or parking violations,
contact the Foothill College Office of Parking Violations at 408/292-1924
(yes, different area code; the college district is HUGE, with multiple campuses
in Los Altos, Mountain View and Cupertino).

Continuing ...

Forum F-1 has multiple entrances at the west, south and east sides of the
building. The room has fixed seating for 126 people, two 25" overhead color
monitors, and other audio-visual paraphernalia. The seats are fibreglass
bucket seats with fold-up writing tables; I suggest you bring a cushion to
reduce the possibility of hemorrhoids.

USUAL: (this will be the "monthly" directions on how to get to Forum F-1)

From I-280 heading south, the El Monte exit is the first one after Page Mill;
from I-280 heading north, the El Monte exit is the first one after Magdalena.
Take the El Monte exit from I-280 heading towards the hills; hug the outside
lane marked "To Foothill College". After entering the campus, the main road
reaches a "T" at which you must turn left or right; turn left and proceed up
the hill to parking lot ``B'' (multiple entrances (to the right) in case you
miss the first 2 or 3). The north end of the lot is preferred; find a place
and park. Locate a parking permit dispenser (50 cents = two quarters), place
the permit on your dash. From parking lot B, walk the north-east passage to th
e
main campus level and the Forum Building is the first building on your left;
the F-1 auditorium has multiple entrances at the west, south and east sides.

(and, NO, you will NOT be in a maze of twisty little passages, all alike! :-)
