I have a problem, related to converting GIF images to Amiga IFF format. At the university, I have access to a really nice Xerox full-page scanner. I often use it to digitize images, which I can then use in my Amiga desktop publishing programs. I do this by saving the images in PCX format, converting them to GIF format, and then converting the GIF images to IFF format. Unfortunately, this works well for small images, but doesn't work at all for images larger than 640x400 pixels. Since the scanner has a resolution of 300 dpi, 640x400 isn't very big! The problem is on the Amiga side. I have been totally unable to find any GIF converters whatsoever which will convert images larger than 640x400. There is the program VirtGIF, which will allow me to view images larger than 640x400, but I cannot save them. I have been told to use a screen shot program (which I have a million of), but this doesn't work. VirtGIF does not use a true virtual screen, but a kludge which acts like a virtual screen. Thus, all the screen grabbers in the world will only grab the visible 640x400 portion of the screen. I need a GIF-to-IFF converter which will allow me to convert an image of, say 800x600, to an IFF file with the same resolution. Since the Amiga can easily handle images as large as 1024x1024 (or as large as 2800x2800 with the new chipset), I don't know why such converters have not yet been written for the Amiga. I have checked literally everywhere for such a program (EXEC-PC, BBS systems, CI$, GEnie, FTP systems, etc..) with no luck. If anyone runs across such a program, I would appreciate knowing about it. -MB-
