[comp.sys.amiga] More on CMI

BAXTER_A@wehi.dn.mu.oz (11/15/89)

Hmmm.. I'm glad it works for someone. I've heard of a more recent version from
CMI that does work (I bought mine 3-4 months ago from LightSpeed), but I am not
sure whether it is just that the same version as mine would work on NTSC any
way. The story is: Repeated crashes and aborted boots (more often with cold
boots). You'd know if you had it! Does not occur if you remove 68881 or CMI
board. Has occured on my A500 (rev5) and a friends (rev 6.?). Did not happen if
I used the old Agnus. I wrote to CMI, not a whisper. I've hunted through the
net and there are actually quite a lot of people who have bought and given up
on the CMI PA. About 2-3 months ago, an employee of CMI (hello! are you still
out there??!!) said something about the old boards being unreliable when
someone complained on the net and suggested they get an upgraded version.
Someone else wrote something about C= sticking in a capacitor instead of a
resistor somewhere on the A500 mother board which played havoc with piggyback
boards (a denial would be nice, C= :-) ). Even if that's true, I paid a
substantial sum for something which it says on the pack of the pack will do
something it does not. I'm pissed off.

Are people with CMI PA's for the A500 having problems alone
or are all CMI PA owners having problems. I am particularly
interested in hearing about PA's for the A1000's. Thanks.

Well I have an A2000B(3MB) and I have ONE problem.
I borrowed the AMax from a friend and it didn't work
I got a picture of a sad m*c saying 0f002 or something
like that. But when I removed the accelerator it worked
great.
