A few questions about the workbench: 1) I have noticed that after I remove certain diskettes from either df0: or df1: occationally the icon for that diskette remains on the workbench screen. Why? (At first I thought it was because I had opened a file or program from that diskette, and left it open when I removed the disk -- this is not the case now. I have tried leaving a file open, and it does leave the icon on the screen, but sometimes after I have closed all of the files from a disk, the icon still remains behind.) 2) I have noticed that when I run almost any program from the workbench, the ram monitor on the menu bar of the workbench screen seems to lose some of the memory that I had before the program began execution. What gives? On a related note, I have also noticed that if I open the RAM: device, part of the missing memory comes back. (Not all, but usually 10K or so.) +-----------------------------------------------------------------------------+ |The views expressed herein, are the sole responsibility of the typist at hand| +-----------------------------------------------------------------------------+ |USNail: UUCP: | |2323 Wells Branch Pkwy., #G107 cs.utexas.edu!romp!ibmaus!auschs\ | |Austin, TX 78728 !sabre.austin.ibm.com!robin | |Home: (512)251-6889 | +-----------------------------------------------------------------------------+

> occasionally the icon for that diskette remains on the screen ...
There are two other circumstances that can cause this to happen.
1. You CD'ed to a directory on the diskette with the icon displayed
2. You have ASSIGNed (or your program has ASSIGNed) something to
the diskette with the icon displayed. For example, suppose your
program has some custom files on the LIBS directory on its own
diskette. If these aren't deASSIGNed at the end of using it,
the icon will continue to display.
The solution is usually simple. CD (change directory) to somewhere else
and/or look at your ASSIGNments with the ASSIGN command and change 'em if
it bothers you to have loose ends.
