I have an Amiga 2000 with a Seagate ST296N, which I leave on all 24 hours. Every now and then I can hear my HD spin. Is this decreasing its life span and should I therefore be turning my system off when not in use? Hi, I've been using my amiga to run a BBS for 2 years, an amiga 2000, with an st277N (just bought a 296), with a US robotics modem. NON STOP! for 2 years.. the hard drive whirs sometimes nad vibrates, but it never has died with the striction problem.. It's also gurued out a couple times and screwed a partition on the drive, but that's due to a horrible bug with my BBS program, I wont mention names but it might be called BBS-PC. I did have one problem, the amiga fan.. it died and my system overheated. luckily there's a thermal switch to prevent temperatures from getting too hot. That happened after about a year of usage. Oh well I think I'll keep my Amiga still -- (( boottrax@csd4.csd.uwm.edu )) My opinions are copyrighted to myself )) )) "Undermine their pompous authority, reject their moral standards, make (( (( anarchy and disruption you trademarks, cause as much chaos & disruption )) )) as possible, but don't le tthem take you alive" - Sid Vicious ((

Just to clear the air... if you are running a BBS-PC! BBS and you have crashes... it is NOT BBS-PC! it is either a hardware defect or another problem. I have run a BBS-PC! system for 2 years myself. MOST of that on only a 512K machine, and I have never had a system crash, ever. I am not real thrilled with BBS-PC!'s features, or lack of... but one thing is that it is a very crash resistent program. We are now in the process of converting our system over to Paragon due to the nice features it has, but it is not (YET!) as solid as BBS-PC!. - Doug - Doug_B_Erdely@Cup.Portal.Com
