"It's" is a contraction of "it is". "Its" is the possesive form of "it". These are easy to keep straight if you think of "his, hers, its", all without apostrophes. Correct spellings: "Separate", "Kernel". "Separate" has two "e"s separated by two "a"s. "Their" is the possesive form of "they". "They're" is a contraction of "they are". "There" is the opposite of "here".
