Hello, I just recently purchased a A500 and Im presently thinking of (after the holiday's of course) purchasing a HD and more memory. Since Im fairly new to the Amiga world and my experience with hardware is rather limited I would like to know the following: 1.) What is the largest and most inexpensive internal expansion board I can get and what would be the approximate cost. Now I know theres plenty of magazines that will give me this info. But what I really want to know is are these board just "pop-em in and go..." or do they require some modification to the A500 itself. 2.) As far as HD's goes, Im lost. There are so many brands that it's almost confusing to even start looking for one. My basic needs are as follows. Probably 40-60MB of space, external (of course) and seperate power supply. Now the next question would be rather geered toward expansion again. Since most drives (only SCSI?) can themselves be expanded (more memory, floppy etc.) what kind of other things do I need. Would one SCSI contoller do this or can I get away without SCSI and use a generic HD controller (and would that allow me to expand memory). Maybe some expanded A500 owners can give me some advice and direction. (I'm not actually Knaup; she was kind enough to let me post this.) (As long as someone else ventured to ask some novice questions....) I'm thinking of buying an A500, and of course I'll need more than 512K. I've been looking through all the Amiga mags, and there seems to be a huge discrepancy between the price of RAM depending on whether you buy the expansions populated or do it yourself. A one meg 70ns chip costs around 15 bucks, 4 256K 100ns about 25, and it seems if all you have to do is plug them into a board, it saves you an inexplicable amount of money. Is there something I'm missing, or is it really so tricky that dealers can get away with selling a couple of megs for $500? Please enlighten me! (Oh -- how does one post an original message?)
