[comp.sys.amiga] Badge2 Files On Xanth

detert@lognet2.af.mil (CMS David K. Detert) (11/24/89)

I'd like to go on record in support of Tad Guy's responses to recent critisms
of the size of the Badge2 files on Xanth, etc. It's true that I have been able to
get them over here to LogNet2, break them into smaller files and download
them to Amy and I can understand the frustration of those who have been unable
to do likewise. BUT, flaming Tad is certainly NOT the answer. I can imagine
the work, no, I know how much work it is to do that kind of stuff in your
spare time. I still don't know HOW in the world Fred Fish still manages to
keep his collection going. Anyway, I don't think the folks who complain have
tried to do enough in their own area. I know from time to time I need extra
space, etc. I AT LEAST try talking to the administrator, explain to him/her
that I could use some temporary space to download something and then I will
give it back. I can't believe that that is NOT possible nor understood by
those who administer systems around the country, etc. IF that fails, as Tad
indicated, some email to him discussing the plight WOULD most certainly
have netted a solution, i.e., direct emailing of broken down files. Anyone
who has been around very long knows how helpful Tad, Bob and most others on the
Net are. I myslef have sent numerous stuff to folks who couldn't have gotten
stuff otherwise. I selectively pick and choose what I am able to do because
it DOES take a significant amount of time. I'm sure anyone who has posted
a message only to have 10's of requests for mailings knows EXACTLY what I am
talking about. Well, I guess that's enough said. I FOR ONE certainly
appreciate the time and effort of those who unselfishly support this Net and I
don't want to see attacks like those recently dim their view of the support
they provide. Thanks Tad and Bob and Fred and...... Think about it the next
time you are thinking about complaining. Have you tried everything you
can to rectify the situation yourself. Then use email to explain the problem
and ASK (even BEG) for help. Don't chastize those who give of themselves.
Other than that, I trust everyone had a Happy Thanksgiving. Cheers, Dave
