[comp.sys.amiga] HardFrame/TargetID

turk@tree.uucp (Rob Turk) (11/25/89)

When performing FormatHF with my Microbotics HardFrame and Quantum Pro 80
drive, the Target ID# came up as 6. In the HardFrame documentation it
seemed to suggest it should be 0 if you only had a single HD to be used,
1 though 6 being used for additional drives or devices. Anyway,
I proceeded and went through RDPrep and all seems well. It seems to work.
The only thing is that when powering up the system, it takes a long time
for my drive to boot the computer [B2000 with 1.3ROM]. I think it
might be searching for drives 0-5 which do not exist, thus delaying
the boot. If this is not the case, is there any reason I should change
the TargetID? Since I'm not hardware literate, and the drive came without
documentation [mail order], I'm not sure what to do. I'd like to know before
filling up the drive.

On a related topic, does the Q80 autopark its heads?

Also, how many megs does this drive truly format out to? My numbers
came out to 82.816000 or 80.875 if true 1,024 megs. Both of these are more
than the 80.1 FormatHF stated. Or did I do something wrong?
Partition 1 is formatted 35 BlocksPerTrack on Cylinders 1-589, and 26BPT
on Cyls 590-833 for Partition 2. I'm using FFS, of course. The HardFrame
Userguide listed the changes from 35BPT to 26BPT as coming from the Quantum
documentation.

Please reply to this by mail. I am new to posting so please ignore errors.
As always, thanks.
