What?? Software coming into Canada is duty-free, and possibly federal sales
tax free as well. I have ONLY ever been charged for media and manuals (the
manuals only once).

Recently Magellan ("expert system maker") was mentioned in this
group.

I saw Magellan by Emerald Intelligence advertised in February.
Since then I ordered (and paid in advance) $179 for their Magellan
AND the communication modules (without which, I have no need for AI).

Since then months passed. Nothing. Then in October (!) I got a message
from the customs here that something has arrived for me. In the parcel
there was, sitting next to MAGELLAN, not the long-awaited MODULES, but
a letter (dated AUGUST) from Emerald, REGRETTING THAT AS FOR NOW THE
MODULES ARE NOT AVAILABLE, please wait 30 days (Now it's 90 days since
that was written).

On top of that, their INVOICE was sloppy, and in a country where
the customs charge is up to 85% on software, urgh!

Call it VAPOURWARE if you like, I call it PIRACY.

ooops! I could have sworn that message I replied to was from someone in
Ontario.

Sorry about that.

Uhh, my site is located at Tel-Aviv, Israel, 3rd world. The state I'm
located in, and especially the customs, do not recognize 'software',
only 'media'(what you don't recognize cannot harm you).
It makes no difference if the media is $80 per diskette.

We are used to all this, only Magellan messed up things further by
sending an invoice that gives the impression the whole set is in the
pack, and the taxman wants his share accordingly.

But never worry, many of us escape. You say in Canada better?
