I got curious about where the news comes from, so I whipped up a couple of simple shell scripts to search through our news spool directory, and here are the results. There were 343 sites represented, from uucp, Arpanet, and CSnet. The top ten sites in number of articles submitted: 1 58 cbosgd 2 46 zinfandel 3 42 floyd 4 38 unc 5 36 sri-unix 6 36 rlgvax 7 35 sdccsu3 8 33 uw-beave 9 31 watmath 10 31 csu-cs There were 938 users represented. The top ten users in number of articles submitted: 1 26 cbosgd!map 2 23 unc!tim 3 23 rlgvax!guy 4 21 tesla!jeff (Jeff Frey) 5 20 cbosgd!mark 6 18 bmcg!unicorn 7 17 zinfandel!mark 8 17 sri-unix!bhayes 9 17 eagle!karn 10 15 mhb5b!smb I thought I was pretty prolific, but I came in a paltry 17th place at 12 articles. Andy Tannenbaum came in at a surprising 140th place, with a mere 4 articles.
