[comp.sys.amiga] Maxtor and Microbotics Hardframe. RESOLVED!!!!

CRONEJP@UREGINA1.BITNET (Jonathan Crone) (11/30/89)

Well I promised a explaination of the steps to get the
Microbotics Hardframe working with the LXT100S from maxtor, and
here it is.... No warranties expressed or implied, but this worked for
us... Thanks to Dave Tinkov for the beta copy of the RDPrep, and
to someone who sugessted the negative mounttime...

     ON with the story...

Specifically, the maxtor and the microbotics didn't like each other.
Binddrivers would guru the machine if the drive was unit select 0.
If it was any unit other than that, it hung.

SO... we tried RUNing binddrivers..... it got hardframe.device
into memory, but FORMAThf and the original version of
RDPREP both gurued...

It was suggested that we select the drive with a higher unit
select. This was done (we put it at unit 6) (not much higher you can
go...)

Same story.

Then it was suggested that the INFO entry in the HardFrame.device in
the expansion drawer be modified from MOUNTTIME=10 to some negative
number.... MOUNTTIME=-10

This was done... and Low and BEHOLD!!!!! Binddrivers terminated...

FormatHF still gurued.
RDPREP original still gurued.

Remove drive from HardFrame. Install on end of Comspec SA1000.
lowlevel format.

(LESSON TO ALL.... If you want to see how GOOD a harddrive set up
program can be, take a look at the Comspec installation...
their software has NEVER gurued on me.... NOT ONCE!!!!) (in messing
with god only knows how many different types of drives...)
(end of lesson)

Return Maxtor to HardFrame... try RDPREP.... it gurus...

Receive via Email from Dave Tinkov (thanks again dude) the
BETA version of a new RDPrep program.

try RDPREP. Drive is preped, and has Rigid Disk Blocks written to it.

Sing, dance cheer. etc. etc. etc.

reboot, and do an amigados format. (follwoing the Microbotics
instructions)

Power off machine, and install autoboot jumper.

power ON machine.... get pissed off when one realizes that the microbotics
driver software doesn't wait long enough for the Maxtor, and
the system needs two nerve pinches to fire up....
(Vulcan Nerve pinch == Ctrl Amiga Amiga)

Do disk speed tests..... Cheer when one gets 500K/sec on a stock A2000
with bridgecard...

Any questions????

I' know its point form, but if you need more info, I'm quite glad to help
out anyone who needs help.... after all the useful net assistance
i received, I'm really grateful... and am willing to help anyone
who needs it...
