[net.music] Joy Division is Punk ?!

Punk has always been more closely associated with the safety-pinned
slam-dancing crowd, except by poorly informed people. I prefer the
term "New Wave" for a lot of the more cerebral and music-like of the
new music.

Which isn't to say Punk is worthless! There is a place for
everything ...

I agree with the distinction between "new wave" and "punk", but
Joy Division actually started out as a punk band - an EP called
"Electric Circus" contains a song called "At A Later Date" which
features grungy guitars and the late Mr. Curtis screaming his
head off.

The best punk album ever made was the domestic version of the first
Clash album - it contains all the good stuff from the original British
import, plus some of their early great singles: "I Fought The Law",
"Complete Control" and "White Man In Hammersmith Palais".
