I have used an HP 79536S drive on the 2090 without problems.

I also have one on my Trumpcard 500. Again, no problems.

Your *MAJOR* problem is that you have a 79530D. The 'D' stands for
'differential SCSI'. I don't know of *ANYONE* who makes differential
SCSI controllers for the Amiga. Everyone makes 'single-ended SCSI'
controllers. The differential SCSI uses +12v and -12v signals and
single-ended uses +5v and GND. It is no wonder that you are getting
multiple R/W errors!!!! If you look above, I said I have a 79536S
(basically the same size drive, but the 'S' standing for 'single-ended
SCSI').

My suggestion to you would be to see if you can exchange the drive for a
single-end SCSI version.

[The funny thing is that I just wrote an article yesterday saying that
Amiga users wouldn't be using differential SCSI drives and a day later, I
am wrong!] :-)

30 days!?!?!? HP offers a 5 *YEAR* warrenty on these new at no extra
cost. What I'm saying is that although the drive is used, it will
probably be good for longer than some other companies 'new' drives. :-)
[Of course, I'm biased] :-)

I have the ability to get a 323 MB formatted drive for the AMIGA
and I already have an AMIGA 2090 HDC. But, I have had severe troubles
using the 2090 with non-standard SCSI drives. Multiple R/W errors but
not defects in the drive. These seem to be related to the overscan
problem but patch2090 doesn't seem to help at all. (yes I followed the
instructions.) The drive is a Hewlett Packard 97530D drive it is a
full-height drive so I will be putting it in it's own chassis. Now,
my questions are as follows...

1: Which Hard Drive controllers will lock the system if there is a SCSI
drive connected but not powered up? I know the 2090 does. Or is there a
Hard Drive Controller for the 2000 that can be switched on/off?

2: Can the IVS trumpcard handle a drive of this size? I want the Mac
partitioning software NOW! I need to get some work finished as soon as
possible.

3: Any recommendations from the net re: drive- controller?

Oh, BTW the cost of this drive is $1,295.00 for 17.5 MS seek 408 MB
unformatted, 323 MB formatted. 40,000 hours MTBF. 30 day warrenty. Used

The company is IME in Boston, Mass. (617) 254-0392
