I use mandelVROOOM.  It's great!  The user interface is slick, it'll
use various math libraries (supports all sorts of things, and changes
the menu if it detects a 020 and/or 881/882).  It will do any non-HAM
video mode and save files in IFF format.  It zooms, pans, slices and
dices.  Wait, there's more!  It'll also do multiple mandel sets in
different windows at the same time.  Each can be a different
resolution (when you start working with a window it displays all of
them at that resolution; switch to the highest "everything" and you
can see them all at once).  It is a really well-done program.
It does Julia sets too!

>    format, what would I need ?  (would MakeAnim suffice?)

I've been told that "MakeAnim" is all you need.  Are you planning on a
mandelbrot animation :-) ?
