[comp.sys.amiga] Yet another Bitnet mailer explosion

denbeste@bbn.com (Steven Den Beste) (12/07/89)

Some of you may have noticed an increase in traffic on comp.sys.amiga, plus the
fact that a lot of it looks familiar.

For the umpteenth time, the Bitnet mailing list has developed feedback and is
infinitely reposting articles back to Usenet proper (and back to the mailing
list again, which causes it to...). These articles can be
recognized easily by the fact that the "Message ID" includes the string
"nigel.udel.edu".

I've sent mail to the postmasters at University of Deleware, and at this point
all we can do is sit back and wait for them to fix it. Until that happens,
expect traffic on this group to swell to 300-400 per day.

...and everybody keep on smiling, OK?

Here's what you can do about it. Put the single line

/Sender: mmdf@udel.EDU/h:j

in your KILL file. Sure, you may trash one or two legitimate BITNET
submissions, but that's the price they pay.
