Anybody heard any rumors / have any idea / have a clue at all when we can expect to see a version of Amax that supports a hard drive ? My 2000 is gathering dust at home while I pound the keys on the Mac II's here at school. Not my choice - But that's life. Without hard drive support, Amax is not much more than an admirable hack and a fun toy. Most of the packages I need to run require a hard drive (there's just not much you can do if the program your'e running takes 800 of an 880 k disk :)). WITH hard drive support, I could have my Amy and get some work done too !! It's gotten bad enough that unless I have hope of seeing a new version of Amax soon, I may have to seriousely consider (gasp !) dumping the Amiga and buying an overpriced Mac-in-toy to get some work done on :(. -nick wilde (wilde@tigger.colorado.edu)

Geez people...... Doesn't anyone on Usenet read Amiga Sentry????? There is a PD program called TC BOOT SLOT that will allow you to use an IVS Trumpcard an a SSCI HD with AMAX. The reason one can do this is b'cause the IVS uses a 5380 SCSI protocol chip in its design. This is the same chip that is used in the Mac. The catch is you have to use your Trumpcard in the closest slot to the CPU (ie Slot 1) and you can only format and partition on a Mac. I assume this is done by a Mac prg. that will format AmigaDos and partition for an Amiga. The program is shareware ($15) done by Steven A Yeager. The issue of Amiga Sentry is Vol3 Issue1. The HD also needs to be dedicated (no Janus here). I would like to thank Steven (haloooo.. Steven are you out there in NetLand?) for what sounds like a nifty prg. adam hill Inter: hill@evax.arl.utexas.edu ----------------------------------- I wouldn't marry her with a 10 foot pole... -- a Farberism

At AmiEXPO Cologne the ReadySoft folks said it would be here in march. I didn't talk to them for very long, but seem to recall that they were intending to support some SCSI controllers. If you need closer info, try calling ReadySoft at (416)731-4175. -- Leonard -- Leonard Norrgard, vinsci@ra.abo.fi, vinsci@finabo.bitnet, +358-21-6375762, EET.

The tech rep said V2.x will be ready aroud the end of January (didn't mention what year!!! :-). I only asked about 2090A support, so can't talk about other controllers. The rep said registered owners will be notified, but didn't mention upgrade costs, if any. BTW: AMax does NOT work if Ameristar's INet software is running. All goes well to asking for Mac disk, the the system hangs forever. Only solution I've found is to re-boot the Amiga with the net command commented out, since the seems no way to kill any of Ameristar's processes once they are started (leads to fun when remote systems are down and can't respond.) Supposedly the March release of A-Max will include sound, LocalTalk (hello Apple!), and hard drive support for common controllers. They have put out another release (with no version numbers :-( ) that does support the 68881 math chip.
