According to a report in "New Computer Express", a UK weekly magazine, all A500's with serial numbers of 520,000 and over already have a 1M agnus fitted, and room for an extra 512K on the main board. The agnus is limited to 512K mode due to problems when only 512K is fitted to the computer, ie no A501. Granada, Comodore's official service company are supposed to undisable the agnus for a small fee. Needless to say they know nothing at all about this! Anyone out there know any more - is it a nasty untrue rumour, or is Comodore just not telling us what we've bought? Any recomendations for a book with the sidecar expansion bus specs. I'm thinking of adding some more RAM, but I'm not prepared to guess the specs from the users guide! Oh how simple and forgiving the BBC B was. Thanks. Stuart Millington. phupp@poppy.

When CBM ran out of 512K fat Agnus chips, they started using the 1Meg fat Agnus chips in the A500. This happened -before- the 1Meg Agnus was released. For that reason no markings on the box or cpu were used to show the chip change. Also no directions were included for changing it from a 512K to 1Meg Agnus. So your being told the truth about the chip. The best way to check if yours has it or not is simply to open the case and look at the chips part number. If you have the 1Meg chip and 1Meg (or greater) of ram, the conversion is a simple jumper and cut, so don't pay a service center big $$$ for doing it. > Any recomendations for a book with the sidecar expansion bus specs. Try to find someone who has/had a -GERMAN- 2000. These babys only had 512k of ram on the mother board and then had a short card plugged in the cpu (co-processor) slot that held another 512k of ram. The wonder of that card was that it could hold up to 1Meg and that it alreay had holes in it for mounting inside a Sidecar!!! Ive done it and it works great. The memory of this card is $C00000.
