I've been reading this group for about a week, and so far 25% of the messages seem to be devoted to 'running down' the other guy's machine. After some reasonable amount of time, gentlemen and ladies generally should agree to disagree. The other point that really torks me is this: The time to help someone decide the proper machine to fit THEIR purposes is BEFORE they spend $2000, not after! Because of my involvement with PCs, I've become some sort of local 'expert' for many of my acquaintances, on choosing computers. I usually tell them the following: Decide what the TASK is that you need to do. Decide whether a computer is really the answer. Find the SOFTWARE that does the task the best. THEN find the machine that it runs on, and get that. Whether it's a C64, PC Amiga,Mac,VAX,AS400 or WHATEVER. Besides that, if we all liked the same things, the lines would be longer and the prices would be higher B-{). ---------- Definition of nanosecond: The amount of time that elapses between when the traffic light turns green, and the jerk behind you stands on his horn. ---------- johnboyd@ocdis01.af.mil 72341.1707@compuserve.com
