I have been in the market for a color printer for my Amiga lately, and I posted a couple of articles about this. I am in the process of purchasing a "low cost" color printer (Okimate 20) from someone on the net. In an article I posted asking for opinions on the Okimate 20, several alternatives were given, including the Star NX1000 Rainbow, Canon PJ1080, and the Diablo C150, as well as the more expensive Xerox 4020. I recently came across a flyer for another color printer touted as a "low-cost, high-performance full color printer". It is the CANON FP-510. Features listed include: 64 gradations for each color. 160 DPI resolution (one dot == one pixel). Image processing (UCR and masking) built in. Color phase correction. (??) Low maintenance. RGB, CMY, color pallet, or B&W modes available. Print size programmable up to 8"x39". Three densities of ink. An exclusive coated paper for outstanding ink absorption and color reproduction. Color representation: 256,000-color, 2-color, 4-color, 16-color, 256-color (pallet). Pallet selection: RGB 16 color mode (gamma correction present), RGB 256 color mode (gamma correction present), CMY 16 color mode (no correction). Exclusive ink: Yellow (1 color), Cyan (3 colors), Magenta (3 colors), Black (1 color). Has anyone seen this printer?? Is it as good as the brochure claims?? I just noticed that the brochure was printed in 1987, so this printer must have been around for a while. There is NO suggested retail price, so I would be interested in HOW MUCH this thing costs (in other words, what does CANON think LOW-COST really means). Thanks, Scott Sutherland sutherla@qtp.ufl.edu
