Your clickety click is cute. Yes, I have to type the name of the application and then select the filename (with my mouse from a menu invoked via ONE function key), but that's the only difference between our wordprocessors). I too use my mouse to manipulate the text (to create it, we all use keys, right?). And that is precisely WHY I chose this wordprocessor (MS Word, BTW). I like using the mouse in some applications for some of the tasks AND I like the keyboard shortcuts in Pagemaker and all other Windows applications if that means I can get around having to leave the keyboard just to save something. (That is also the reason, why some people at work here still prefer vi over FrameMaker Write, though FrameMaker is mouse driven and WYSIWYG). I feel very lucky that I can use my 21MHz AT clone at home, the Sun 3/60, the PCs, and the Macs at work. So much more power to me. Whenever I have to perform a certain task I think about what each system is capable of, what my expertise level with the available application is, and whether or not I need the resulting file to be compatible with any one of the systems (customer sometimes have preferences). Thats when I make my decision which machine and which application to use. The thought of which machine being superior over another does not even enter the picture. Sure, I like my PC (who does not like their machine?). But I still appreciate whatever the other machines can offer me. And yes, the Mac is pretty neat and I start whishing some of the features available to me. But then, I have seen Amigas do great things in the music and graphic department. For a while, I owned an AtariST. It was amazing too, until I needed compatibility with my clients who seemed to never have heard of Atari's. I even caught myself wishing I could have the UNIX feature of mounting to other directories on my DOS machine. I hated UNIX when I first had to learn it. Doesn't all this war on superiority of one system versus the other boil down to the human fact that we hate what we don't have and that we hate what we don't yet know how to do? Get real people and stop wasting your energy. Instead, enjoy what you do have available to you and make an effort to learn about other people's choices. They are real people too. Vera.
