[comp.sys.amiga] 3rd drive

I just added a Master-3A1 external drive to my 2000 and it's causing very odd
behavior. I have 2 internal floppies installed in a base machine, there are no
other add-ons. When this drive is plugged in and I boot from df0: (I tried
many disks and the story was the same) I keep getting requesters like 'You
MUST replace <diskname> in drive 0!!!' or 'Unit 1 not a DOS disk' or it grinds
a little and I get the Kick screen again. But I never took the darn disk out
of the drive, It just seems to be random requester time when this happens.
After doing the 3 finger salute maybe 10-15 times the machine will boot. The
drive has a unit switch on the back labeled 0 and 1, I keep it on 1 cause this
is what the manual said to do. Of course I tried it on 0 and it still freaked
out and would never boot (well.. I just never waited for it when it ws set to
0). Am I missing something here? Is there a motherboard jumper for external
drives, as there is for 2nd internals? Thanks in advance for replies and Merry
Xmas and a cool 1990.

                                        Pierre Altamore

Well, I've a friend with a similar problem on his A500, but he says
that his caps lock key flashes when this happens. You might want to look at
it the next time you boot up- if the light flashes a few times, it's trying to
tell you something is wrong.
