I'm trying to send a file to our UN*X box at work using Kermit in VLT4.226 (obtained off of the appropriate Fish disk). When I try it, it sends a couple (94 byte) packets, then starts getting transmit errors. At this point, the problem could be on the work machine or on my A1000, but the error recovery is not happening right. I get the requestor about finishing up disk activity, then it guru's. I need to get a 1K packet Kermit for work. I ended up finding an OLD Xmodem (actually, it's called umodem on our HP-UX systems at work) protocol program at work and using Xmodem-Checksum transfer which worked eventually. -Are there known problems with sending files with VLT's Kermit? -How do you do the "set file type binary/text" Kermit commands with VLT's Kermit? -Are there any other VLT configuration settings I should be concerned about? "Strip 8th bit"? -Is there a way to tell VLT (at runtime) not to muck with REXX ports? I don't have REXX. I don't have any compilers for a rebuild either. -Is there an easy place to get an up-to-date Kermit for UN*X and/or AmigaDOS? or Zmodem? or ... I vaguely remember reading on BIX that Willy introduced a bug in VLT's Kermit implimentation in version 4.226 (about the time I switched to zmodem, which is probably why I haven't experienced it first hand). He knows about the bug and how to fix it, but I don't know if he's going to issue a maintenance release to fix it, or wait until other revisions (like an overhaul of the scripting language) are done... -Dan Riley (riley@tcgould.tn.cornell.edu, cornell!batcomputer!riley) -Wilson Lab, Cornell University

There's no need to tell VLT not to bother with rexx ports- if you don't have rexx, just ignore the ports. They're not costing you anything by being there; in fact, they're just standard message ports which lots of programs have without telling you about it.

I too have had GURU visitations when I have had more that 10 packet retries on a Kermit SEND. Regards, Randy -- Randy M. Roberts phao172@emx.utexas.edu
