[comp.sys.amiga] Call for VOTES: comp.sys.amiga.hardware

trent@ucscb.ucsc.edu (Used by permission) (01/02/90)

Following the discussion period which was called on December 17, 1989,
this is a call for VOTES about the creation of a new newsgroup for Amiga
hardware. The voting period will start immediately (which is some time
on January 2nd, 1990) and continue through January 22nd, 1990.

The name of the group is to be comp.sys.amiga.hardware; it is to be
un-moderated.

Rationale for the creation of this group is that the existing Amiga
discussion groups have extremely high traffic, and that the largest
unambiguously identifiable subtopic is that of hardware-related
discussion. It is also noted that hardware discussions are currently
often cross-posted to both comp.sys.amiga and comp.sys.amiga.tech
because of confusion over which group they would be more appropriate to.
It is hoped that the new group will help minimize cross-posting by
clearing up this ambiguity.

The proposed group's charter reads as follows:

  Purpose: discussion about Amiga computer hardware. Questions about
  the purchase of new hardware; problems with existing hardware;
  reviews of hardware products; modification and hacks of existing
  hardware; design of new hardware.

Votes are being directed to a friend's account at the University of
California, Santa Cruz. I will attempt to send confirmations of all
votes; at the end of the voting period I will post a summary of votes
received.

Please send votes to one of the following addresses:

  trent@ucscb.ucsc.edu
  trent%ucscb@ucscc.bitnet
  uunet!ucbvax!ucscc!ucscb!trent

Votes sent to other addresses from my signature MAY be counted and will
certainly be replied to in an annoyed tone. [Votes are being directed
to ucscb because A) it is more easily reached by poorly connected sites;
B) gorn gets mail at 2400bps via UUCP, and it would be unfriendly to tie
up a significant portion of its bandwidth for several days receiving
votes.]

Votes must be clear and unambiguous; "YES" or "NO" is fine, but "I think
a hardware group is a good idea, but it should be called
'comp.sys.amiga.hw'" is a comment and doesn't count for anything.

Thanks for your time and welcome to the 1990's! >Bela<
