I ran into a problem with the serial.device that comes with the 1.3.1 and 1.3.2 updates. This new driver causes Deluxe Music Construction Set (DMCS) to guru with an Illegal Instruction when you turn Midi off, or exit DMCS with MIDI enabled. I imagine that the problem may in fact lie with DMCS. The readme file for the 1.3.2 update from Andy Finkel said that one of the changes is that the new driver no longer accepts invalid unit numbers, i.e. it has become more picky. I run with no problems when I use the original 1.3 serial driver. Is there anything I am really missing out on by using the old driver for serial port but using all the other 1.3.2 updates? Has anyone else seen this problem with the serial.device with DMCS or other software? Have there ever been any updates to DMCS to perhaps correct this problem? I know that Bars&Pipes worked fine with both new and old serial drivers. Is there a way to make the new serial port run in "less picky" mode, sort of like how the X11R4 server has a bug compatibility mode? NOTE TO COMMODORE: Why doesn't SetCPU come with the A2630 board? I was lucky to have it on a Fish disk, but not everyone who gets one is up on such things and misses out on a great diagnostic/turbo-charge tool. For the money involved, I would think Commodore could throw in a floppy with the deal. Thanks to Haynie for writing SetCPU. I like having 7.6 MIPS of power. It makes DMCS usable :-). --John Ramspott -- John Ramspott gatech!stiatl!jer Sales Technologies, Inc 3399 Peachtree Rd, NE Atlanta, GA (404) 841-4000
