After reading over some literature on the GVP 030 board I have some questions about clock rate for either a GVP person or anyone that has the board. I don't currently have an Amiga, but was hoping the "A3000" would have been out by now, so I am looking at alternatives. The question I have concerns the maximum processor speed allowed. The intial GVP offering was a 25Mhz 030, which in adds as subsequently been raised to 28Mhz. From the technical description I have read, it sounds as if the access time of the DRAM is what limits the ultimate speed of the processor, but this is not exactly clear. There was no mention of jumpers for DRAM clock speed so I am assuming they are running at what ever speed the clock is. This would seem to imply that the access time of the DRAM limits the ultimate clock speed. So the big question is what happens if I upgrade the 030 and clock to 33Mhz? Will the 030 just overrun the memory or does the GVP board introduce wait states? If wait states are introduced the slower memory could continue to be used. Otherwise faster memory would be required, but then maximum processing power would be available. -- Alan Bair SPS CAD Logic Simulation & Test Motorola, Inc.
