I've noted something peculiar. I just recently got enough memory to
allow me to put a few more things in my startup-sequence and one of
those was VirusX 4.0. On occasion I mount a few FFS floppies. (I keep
my archives on them.) (Yeah, I know that it ain't kosher, but I like
the extra space and I've gotten used to the faster directory listings on
my hard disk.) I found that when I reboot with an FFS floppy in
DF1:, (the FFS floppy drives haven't been mounted at this point) VirusX
aborts with a task held requester. I might expect it to report
something unusual, but not to abort.
Anyway, I'm 90% certain that it's a VirusX problem since it goes away
when I either leave the drive empty or feed it with an OFS floppy at
reboot time. I spent time swapping things in and out of my
startup-sequence and am certain that it is VirusX. Now I really don't
expect a resolution, since I *am* doing a no-no. (I'm not a 1.4 tester.
I'm using 1.3.2, KS 1.2, and the AutoDiskChange program that some
wonderful programmer came up with a year or so ago.) I just thought
that it might be of interest to any other rule-breakers out there who
use the FFS on 1.3 floppies.
As a side note, I've been continually amazed at how well the FFS
floppies do work. It's a tribute to the design of Amiga that one can
replace one file system with another and have most programs not give a
damn. I've had no problems manipulating FFS disks in FF0: and FF1:,
even my favorite dirutil thingy can handle them without trouble.
