I got a GVP Impact A500 Hard drive for Christmas, and I had a thought that any of you budding Hardware makers might want to scribble down. "When you make a hard disk install script - don't assume I will want to use your system set-up. Ask me for my workbench diskette and use it as much as possible (like preferences, c: directory, libs: directory, etc.). Just copy in the stuff from your setup that you need." Also, a question for the AmigaDOS gurus; "How do I change the damn disk Icon for the GVP HD?" I have tried using the Imagemaster program and other Icon generating programs I have used for other Icons, but when I try to save the damn Icon I've drawn for the Hard Disk, it only reverts back to a dresser lokking thing with 3 drawers on it (BUT,... the actual disk Icon that shows up on the screen is just a Blank floppy Icon). I have also noticed that when I take a snapshot of the Hard Disk root window (the one I get when I first double-click on the HD Icon) it doesn't last after a reboot. Help me please... +-----------------------------------------------------------------------------+ |The views expressed herein, are the sole responsibility of the typist at hand| +-----------------------------------------------------------------------------+ |USNail: UUCP: | |2323 Wells Branch Pkwy., #G107 cs.utexas.edu!romp!ibmchs!auschs\ | |Austin, TX 78728 !sabre.austin.ibm.com!robin | |Home: (512)251-6889 ^^^^^^^^^^^^^^<-MUST BE INCLUDED| +-----------------------------------------------------------------------------+

Rename it as "Disk.info". It MUST be this name for it to take effect!! Do a re-boot and you should have your new icon. As for your snapshot problem...I THINK (my emphasis) it works only one level up at a time. That is...hold the shift key, click on the icons you want snap-shoted, then (while still holding shift key), click on the drawer icon also, then (still holding shift key), use the workbench "Snapshot" tool. I hope I've been of service. Just try that with Unix when it comes out, you will be sorry in a hurry. Try using "loadwb" on the CLI command line to see the effect of a changed "disk.info" file... Boy this is neato stuff. <BTW, the re-naming it to Disk.info is not required. I just saved it as that from the imagemaster program and it worked perfectly.> On to the probs, I can't remember is it was you, or somebody else who suggested that I check to make sure falcon wasn't assigning the falcon: directory in the startup-sequence. I re-installed falcon on my HD and this time left it where the install script put it. It still doesn't help. I counted the lines this time between the instruments and the scenery window, there is a 4 pixel wide line across the screen from the left-to-right. And several instruments (especially noticable on the "warning" indicator light) are not as they should be -- they have some- thing wrong with them. Has anuybody else seen this problem, or should I call Spectrum HoloByte?
