The Black Belt device looks interesting, to say the least, but it seems like any external devices like this are going to have problems with the pointer (or any sprite), since there's no way to tell whether video data is coming from a sprite or a bitmap. This would probably cause at least two problems: 1. In the HAM-E mode, the pointer would affect the picture beneath it, much like a menu on a regular HAM screen. This does NOT happen in normal HAM mode. 2. If you move the pointer up to the first scan line, and obscure some of the magic patterns there, the screen would revert back to medium or high res And what would happen if you put a menu bar on one of the new mode screens? The user presses the menu button, and the screen mode changes? (Into high res -- hmm, this might be a "feature.") Any comments? Am I all wet?
