I'm looking into buying hardware for digitizing artwork for inclusion into a DTP package. DigiView is the first package to come to mind, but I've also been thinking of inexpensive scanners, such as C Ltd.'s Han-D-Scan. Output would be B&W, possibly to a Star NX-10 9-pin printer, most likely via 2400 baud modem to a PostScript printer. I'm using an A1000 with 3 floppy drives and 2.5Meg of RAM. While the idea of CLtd's scanner is appealing, especially the 400 DPI resolution (which would work quite well with the 300 DPI PostScript printer) I have heard that it requires connecting to the serial, parallel, *AND* joystick ports -- with no passthrus. True? Would a couple of A-B boxes allow me to keep my printer and modem connected? I've heard of A-B boxes causing damage to the Amiga. Would it be safe so long as everything is powered down before toggling? If you have some experience with digitizers and/or scanners for DTP applications, please reply via mail. I'll post a summary. -- Wally (uunet!pallas!wally or wally@athenanet.com) This article is 100% public domain. If you can make $$$ off of it, more power to you. :-)
