I have an Amiga 500 with two floppy drives, 1 meg memory and a 1084 terminal. Recently I have noticed two problems that have suddenly surfaced with respect to the terminal. I believe, from friends, that these may be fairly common occurences and that there are possible cheap fixes. The first problem is a sudden "blip" on the screen, where the picture decides to completely redraw despite the fact that you are not working on anything. This only occurs once or twice an hour so it is not as annoying as my second problem. After the screen has been started from cold and about 10 minutes has lapsed, a high pitched whine starts up. The volume and pitch of this whine can be altered by pressing on the contrast and screen controls at the back of the terminal, which leads me to believe that it is a high frequency vibration generated somewhere close to these controls. The noise dissappears after 3 or 4 minutes (or as my kids found out a good bang on the top of the terminal) but while it is there it is painfull on the ears. I have discussed the problem with my local service store and they didnt have a clue, but were willing to investigate at $100 CAN an hour :-( Any help on where to start on these two problems would be greatly appreciated.
