[comp.sys.amiga] ASDG VD0:

Grrreatings!

I wonder if anyone can help with my following problem:

I decided to install vd0: on my system (latest version). It seems to mount
ok, but I cannot access it.

My system is Amiga500, 1Meg, running Cshell 3.03A. VD0: shows in the device
list, but doesn't show as 'mounted'. Tho if I try to mount it, it says 'device
already mounted'. It also shows up in CygnusEd's file requester, but can't
access it from there either. I tried setting the HiCyl very low, (about 256k),
but the same problem.

When I try to access it, it returns 'VD0: object not found'.

Anyone had this problem and solved it? Is it my mountlist? (pretty sure I
followed whatever it said in the instructions!). If it is my mountlist,
can someone send me a copy of their mountlist? (just the vd0: entry)

Thanks.

The ``Latest Version'' of VD0: did not come from ASDG. It comes from a
disassembly of my version which someone souped up and tried to improve.
For the most part, they did a good job of eliminating the inefficiency
of the early Manx compiler VD0: was compiled in. They also managed to
squash a couple of bugs which were results of the device's VERY early
development date. (IE: if I were to write a device from scratch today,
it'd be a hell of a lot better than the one I wrote in September 1986).

Anyway, my original VD0: did work on a lot more machines than the
``new version.'' There is no real material advantage of the ``new version''
over my version. So my advice is: if the old version works and the
``new version'' doesn't, - stick with the old version.

Also, now that this is common knowledge, I hope people will stop asking
for support on the ``new version.'' Also, please stop giving me all
the credit/blame for the new version as it is only based upon my work.

Thanks

Thanks Perry for that enlightenment.

Now for the request... I still have only 1/2 Meg on my 1000 at home, but
like recoverability.
1/2 Meg is not sufficient to use RAD: (even 1 Meg is iffy), so I still
use (and love) VD0: - I even sent you some shareware money!
For those of us that like to use this useful tool, could you please
execute those ideas on how you would do it now? Pretty please?
