[comp.sys.amiga] A Japanese Amiga or whatever

MFM1%LEHIGH.BITNET@ibm1.cc.lehigh.edu (mark masters) (01/16/90)

First off, let me appologize if this goes to both groups, I don't want
to break any netiquette or anything, but I'm stuck on the bitnet
end of things, and well I have no control over some things like this.

Anyhow, to the subject at hand, it seems to me that the amiga has
some special hardware to take care of graphics and sound. Does
the FM Towns? That is, does the FM towns use pure processor power
to do all these fantastic graphics. If it does then it seems to me
that this is really a draw back. In any multi-tasking system,
the graphics will disrupt the normal operations in order to work
properly. Now the Amiga is a 1985 computer, but it seems to me
that the FM towns, if and only if it doesn't have special hardware
is really a suped (sp?) up PC. Nothing more, which would make
it much older. However, It certainly would be nice if the Amiga
had some of the features you have mentioned about the FM Towns, such
as the larger number of colors, higher resolution, built in CD player,
32 bit chip set. Who knows maybe those things will come.
It just seems to me that it is too soon to say that the Amiga's time
has come.

P.S. Another drawback to the FM towns is of course that it is based
upon a processor which some (I for one) feel is brain damaged.
