[comp.sys.amiga] Good Speech digitizing software

daves@fs1.ee.ubc.ca (Dave Small) (01/12/90)

Would anyone out there with experience with one or more of the following
audio digitizers care to comment on the relative benefits of each:

1) Perfect Sound
2) Future Sound
3) AMAS (audio digitizer + MIDI -- also more expensive: worth it?)

Comments on their sample quality and software would be appreciated.

-----------------

Also, has anyone seen software for the Amiga that will display the
fundamental frequency (pitch) of a speech sample along with the
waveform?

Any experiences / thoughts / opinions would be appreciated.

well, I just bought AMAS...mostly I wanted a MIDI interface, though, and
thought having a digitizer would be useful too. From what I've read in
AmigaWorld (for what that's worth) the best setup for digitizing would
be AMAS in connection with the software AudioMaster II from Aegis.
According to their review, AMAS had about the best digitizing quality.

One problem I experienced with AMAS was that it's pretty tough to find
lately. The people at Lightspeed have had them backordered for quite a
while and said that the manufacturer said that they've been having
trouble getting the parts they need for them. Anyway, I found one at
Creative Computers here in L.A. (the Santa Monica store had a few)--you
might try calling them (they have a big fold-out AmigaWorld ad).

Anyway, good luck. Once I get the digitizer hooked up and tried out,
I'll let you know how it's doing...
