A friend (Dwight Blubaugh - author of the remarkable 3-D molecule program included with the Haitex glasses) and me (keeper of the mouse buttons - :-)) have a little hardware hack that we did that will enbale you to eliminate the daughterboard in your 1000 and put a kickstart ROM on the motherboard. THis will clean up many of the noise and timing problems caused by the daughterboard (we have successfully gotten machine to run with multiple expansion devices that would not run before this was done). We are suppossed to have an article coming out in Amazing, but it keeps getting pushed back :-(. We have had some of the cards made up (double sided, solder mask, plate through holes) and are selling them bare for $15.00. You basically remove the daughter board, desolder the gold standoffs, place a few TTL chips on the motherboard in the pre-existing spaces, solder the Kickstart ROM adapter card together, and place it on the motherboard. Poof, no more kickstart disk needed. The parts can be had fairly cheap, the biggest expense being a 1.3 ROM (of course if you do not want autobooting hard drives, you can probably talk your local dealer out of a 1.2 ROM for free - where do all those upgraded ROMs go to :-)). Or we can supply the card and parts, sans ROM and PALs for $30, or an assembled card + parts (again sans ROM and PALs) for $40. If interested, let me know via e-mail.. Since this is not in any way the contents of our Amazing article, it cannot be construed that it has already been published (GRIN), Just the FAX ma'am,,,,, George (always coming up with something) Gibeau. P.S. - Tracey, is it true that SDRC is being taken over by Amiga's?
