[comp.sys.amiga] Help my brother-in-law decide!

[ Fly right seat with ME, evil line eater...if you DARE! (my wife did!)]

With this Educational Discount stuff going on, I went to my brother-in-law
and said "HEY! Now is the perfect time to get that amiga system you've
always (great movie) wanted." However, I have a few questions that I need
answered before I can whole-heartedly recommend this decision to him.

The system he is thinking of buying is the 2500/30. This comes with the
'030 card in the processor slot populated with 2MB of 32-bit memory. It
also has the 2091 HD controller and the 40MB Quantum hard drive.

My questions are:

1) When one boots using the 68000, is the 2MB on the '030 card still
usable? In other words, will his system still have 3MB of RAM?

2) I told him about AMIX (tm?) and that this system should position him
very nicely such that when/if AMIX (tm?) comes out, he would be able
to run it on this system with a minimum of additional stuff. Is this
    a good assumption?

3) The prices on all of the systems appear to be VERY good. After these
discounts end, does the net figure the regular prices will come down
on their own? Will he be faced with the Christmas sale delima in that
the after-Christmas sales are generally better than the before-Christmas
sales? I realize that I'm asking ya'll to second guess the CBM Gods,
but inquiring minds want to know. :-)

If the answers to these questions are favorable then he'll probably order
the thing next week. :-)

Thanks,
-Randy Smith
